Hello!
My name is Mary Sommer. This is my tenth year at Luther L. Wright. I am originally from Moose Lake, Minnesota. I first moved to Ironwood back in 2003 immediately after graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. While here, I was a substitute teacher in both Ironwood and Bessemer for 1 year. I then taught Head Start in the Ewen classroom and then a Bessemer classroom. My husband and I started our family and decided to move to Fargo, North Dakota for six years. I was a substitute teacher in both Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota for 2 years. Then I taught for the Head Start program in Moorhead for 4 years, before moving back to Ironwood. When I first moved back, I worked for the GOISD as the Great Start Parent Liaison for both Gogebic and Ontonagon county for 2 years.
I have been married to my wonderful husband Mat for 20 years. We first met and were then married in Duluth, Minnesota. We have three beautiful children. Mason/Aster who is a Senior, Madden who is a Sophomore, and Mila who is in second grade. In Spring of 2020 we welcomed a beagle named Mazie to our family.
Outside of school I love to take walks, visit waterfalls in our area, read, and play sports with my children.
In my classroom, we strive to work hard and be kind to each other. I love my students to have a positive environment where everyone feels safe, loved, and free to make mistakes.
